I remember this movie well! I was born in 1969 and have often wondered about the movie with the witch and the happy pancakes! I saw it in Houston, Tx. at Wilchester Elementary several times from 1976-1979. Hermoine Gringold also played a witch in the movie, "Bell, Book and Candle" with Jimmy stewart, Kim Novak, and Jack Lemon. Awesome!

Does anyone remember a movie called "evan's corner" about a little boy who wanted his own room, but his mom told him to just take a corner instead?

Thanks for the memories!

I remember this movie, but not because of the pancakes or the dots. I remember the lines about the old witch couldn't find a job in the want ads, and the papers had nothing but bad news.

Awesome! I was born in 1970 and have absolutely no memory of this film. Recently read about it in a Minneapolis paper and was intrigued. What a great find. Sorry I missed out on the excitement way back when. The TV dinner scene was nuts - ah, those metal trays with overprocessed and overcooked food. Delish. Your summary - with captioned pictures - is fantastic. Thanks for sharing your find.

I was so excited when I spotted in the article in the NY Times! What a relief...the mystery is solved. It brings back so much.
Thank you!

Wow...so it wasn't just an acid flashback. Actually, I disagree with the blogger that this little film had no messages to impart other than LSD can make people happy (we all remember the cautionary tales of people thinking they could fly off of tall buildings after using it). I believe the film has several positive messages: getting along with others, tolerating differences, having a positive attitude, making lemonade out of lemons, etc etc.

Thanks for doing the research and finding this little freaky gem of a movie.

I have vague memories of a witch serving pancakes that flew, to a blonde girl, and that everyone was happy. I imagine this must have been my five-year-old mind interpreting the psychedelic dots, because there can't possibly be two movies about pancakes and witches!

Ahhh the satisfaction! Thank you so much. Tripped out pancakes! Were they blueberry? Or was that the crazy dots? I am going to make some this morning and check it out. Watched this film several times over the years at Miami Shores Elementary School K-6 1979 - 1986 and have wondered about it ever since.

This is such a strange situation! I just read the article in the NYTimes, and though I hadn't seen this film, I have a similar experience with a different one. All of the comments, the sense of frustrated mystery, and the dreamlike quality are similar to my memories of Mexican Little Red Riding Hood movies that used to be shown on syndicated TV in the New York area in the late 60's.

Has anyone else seen the dubbed "La Caperucita Roja" movies? They, or some clips at least, are available on YouTube. Like the Times article said, the online world has become a de facto nostalgia clearing house, and I now have validation that these films existed. Previous to that, anytime I mentioned a crazy wolf and his helium-voiced skunk sidekick, and the fascinating/terrifying impact they made on me, people brought up the usual responses, usually implying drug abuse.

Thanks for giving this general kind of phenomenon a forum!
