For the past 3 years I’ve have a small (30 gallon) saltwater tank at work by my desk.
One of the first fish I bought for it was a blue tang, or “Darcy” as every visitor under the age of 12 calls it.
A few weeks after I got it it contracted Hole In Head Disease, a fish disease that is almost always fatal. I tried all the speculated remedies (the cause is unknown and therefore so is a cure), and eventually the fish died.

This morning I was in a rush to leave and I forgot to do two things:
Take out a bag of trash I’ve been meaning to take out since Sunday.
Close the dog gate.
Normally if I forget to close the gate, my dog enjoys her freedom to roam the house but doesn’t take advantage of it and is a good dog.
Not today!
Note the destroyed styrofoam container under the coffee table. It contained week-old Chinese food, a lot of it, which had then been wrapped up and was buried in the trash bag …

The other night I was sitting on my sofa watching TV when a spider appeared on my ceiling.
I am absolutely terrified of spiders, a fear which was lived out to its fullest one night in 1998 when after being awakened by a tickling on my leg that wouldn’t go away, I pulled back the covers to find dozens of spiders in my bed. Needless to say, I soon moved out of that apartment.

A few nights ago I was outside with several other people when one of them noticed a large beetle crawling on the ground next to her.
“Eeew! A big bug!” she screamed. “Someone kill it!”
“Don’t kill it!”, I said, “it’s not hurting anyone.”
The beetle crawling towards me, then behind me.
“Kill it, it’s nasty!” someone else said.
“No, it’s in it’s natural environment and minding it’s own business,” I said, taking a step backward. “There’s no reason to ki…” [CRUNCH!]
“Ummm…. uh… never mind,” I finished. :)

The other night I was getting ready to go out to karaoke, and the sole remaining task was to take my dog out. I took her down the stairs, and as I approached the lobby another dog in the lobby broke free from its owner and chased after us.
There was a brief tussle between the two before the other owner took control of their dog. I did a quick inspection of my dog and all seemed fine. The other owner apologized and I continued on …
