From a KCMO press release issued yesterday:
“The City of Kansas City, Mo., Public Works Department is alerting motorists that many streets in the Downtown and Crossroads areas will be temporarily closed at various times from Nov. 19 through Nov. 22. These closures are being made to accommodate the National Catholic Youth Conference.”
Why are these closures and parking restrictions taking place?   So that the 300 school buses that will be used to shuttle attendees between their hotels and the conference will have a place to idle.
So, for four days this weekend, …

After 3 weeks of working on it whenever I could find the time, the writeups of all 5 segments of our July 2009 barhopping trip through Nebraska are finally complete. They are now indexed at another of my sites, 101Libations.leapbeer.com.
We  visited 101 bars over about a 101 hour period.  Our biggest day was Saturday with 28 bars, our lightest was Thursday with 21.   Our most expensive beer by volume was in Fremont, NE  at Franky & Oly’s, our least expensive was just over an hour earlier at Tiny’s Bar …

Sunday, July 19, 2009. Thee 5th and final day of our July barhopping trip that would end up taking us to 101 bars.
We were not in any particular hurry today, so we were slow at getting ready. Once we finally checked out, we drove around downtown Omaha to take pictures that we were unable to get the night before. We drove around downtown a lot, actually, because we couldn’t figure out how to get to the freeway bridge.

We only had 40 miles to drive, but those 40 miles would take 11 hours to cover and we’d still have a big cab/walking evening after that. So we skipped the free waffle breakfast our motel offered and hit the road by about 9:30am.

Friday, July 17, 2009. Day 3 of our July barhopping trip that would end up taking us to 101 bars.
The third day of the trip began with excitement and energy as we set forth on our newly-devised goal of visiting 100 bars. This enthusiasm would not last, however, as an unusual number of closed bars and the inevitable gastrointestinal issues that always result from drinking this much beer threatened to derail the day.
Not yet realizing the troubles in store for thee first part …

Continued from Part 1…
Thursday, July 16, 2009. Day 2 of our July barhopping trip that would end up taking us to 101 bars.
At 6am on Thursday morning, far too early for the condition I was in, I was awakened by the sound of a baby crying in a nearby room. After about 15 minutes of that, the sound was joined by the shrieks of an older child throwing a tantrum. Eventually the screeches subsided into sobbing, and after at least half an hour of this …
