Attention Advertisers: Please Cure Your Yellow Fever!

The above scene is repeated all throughout my building, where the latest variation of a Yellow Pages, delivered 3 days ago, sits untouched in front of occupied apartments because nobody uses them and nobody wants them. Yet there is no way to opt out of receiving them. It is a process that repeats itself every 2-3 months when another company releases its identical compendium of already-outdated information. It’s like getting a thousand pages of junk mail all at once.
What a waste of paper in an era where green is in!
Just inside my own door sits a stack of half a dozen other similar phone directories, never opened, simply waiting for me to take the time to drop them off somewhere for recycling. Feist, AT&T, Yellow Book, they just keep coming!
I haven’t used a phone book in years, and I honestly can’t think of anyone I know under the age of 45 that still uses them.
Advertisers? These phone companies may tell you about their amazingly high circulations of these phone books, but what they aren’t telling you is the high percentage of them that are picked up from the doorway and immediately tossed into the recycling bin.
So please, stop wasting your money on buying slots in every fly-by-night phone book company and let that archaic medium finally die a natural death!

Ugh. As an advertiser I will tell you there is no more overpriced, useless form of advertising in the world. It’s expensive and it’s useless. And half the time they get the ad wrong. I’ve been slowly prying my boss’s mind out of the “But we HAVE to be in the YPs” attitude.

You can go to yellowpagesgoesgreen.org to stop phone book delivery. I signed up, haven’t gotten a new one this year, so I think it might work.
