Hello? Nonsmokers? You out there?
Just wondering if any of you are going to start bothering to show up at any of the places you got smoking banned at. Because it's been a week now and I haven't seen any of you at any of my regular haunts yet... just empty tables and barstools sitting waiting for you. One of the servers mentioned she'd like to thank you for her customers (and hence tips) being WAY down this week compared to the week before, and the regulars are starting to wonder if they can just go ahead and light up again since so far you haven't been dropping by to potentially complain.
Again, just curious where these hordes are that you all claimed would pack the bars once they were smoke-free. A lot of jobs are on the line.
Comments
the problem is that these people who advocated the ban never hung out at those places anyway. hell, they probably don't even go to bars.

Scooter, don't be silly, they're still sitting on their soapboxes looking for other ways to tell everyone what to do.

Give me some time. I can only get to these bars one at a time.

2-Naphthylamine, 4-Aminobiphenyl, Benzene, Vinyl Chloride, Propylene Oxide, Arsenic, Beryllium, Nickel, Chromium (only haxavalent), Cadmium, and Polonium-210 are human carcinogens found in tobacco smoke...

Wow, you cut and paste that from a propaganda web site?
How about the more recent studies that prove that air quality in a smoky bar is no worse than the air quality sitting in traffic?

do you smoke, Scooter?
Posted by: a non-smoker | July 11, 2008 12:09 PM
No, I do not smoke.
But I am tired of seeing my favorite places suffering and closing early due to lack of customers when they were flourishing less than a month ago.
I want to see those who enacted this ban prove that they weren't just being busybodies.

If you're wanting to hear from non-smokers why are you blocking my comments?

If smokers aren't frequenting your/their "favorite places" any more, why are you blaming non-smokers?
Posted by: a non-smoker | July 12, 2008 10:43 PM
(A) I'm not blocking comments so you must have done something wrong.
(B) I am blaming nonsmokers for two reasons: First, because they voted a ban that doesn't even affect them, which makes them busybodies. And second, because the ban-loving chumps were lying (as everyone with any sense knew all along) when they claimed repeatedly that bar business increases in areas with smoking bans. That has been disproven repeatedly.

Is it fair to say that both camps are guilty of lying regarding the affects of cigarette smoke?

They may not be frequenting your favorite bar, but that doesn't mean they aren't somewhere else. I've gone out much more occasionally since the ban has started. I used to not enjoy going out for a drink or two after work because I hated inhaling the fumes and smelling like an ashtray. I used to hate going on out weekends and waking up the next morning reeking of smoke and having a sore throat.
However, you bring up a good and valid point in that the proponents of the ban will probably never flock to certain bars. I'm likely to more frequently hit the bars I already patronized with perhaps occasionally stepping out to something new.
