A Sucker Bet?

At the company I work for we have a thing called Kitchen Duty. Everyone gets assigned 1 to 2 days a month that they are responsible for making sure the kitchen gets cleaned up and the dishes get washed and put away.

I have a bet with one of my co-workers over which of us can have a beer at the most bars in 2007 that we've never been to before. The loser has to do the winner's kitchen duty for all of 2008.

Now, in 2006 I had a beer at 180 new bars, so common sense says I'm going to be tough to beat. But his rationale is that because I have been to so many, it's harder for me to find new ones I haven't been to before. In fact as of last week he was up on me 6 to 1 -- with two of his new bars being ones I had taken him to.

However since last Friday I have been to 12 more new places for me, putting the score at 13 to 6 in my favor:

  1. Pizzeria Uno (Country Club Plaza, Kansas City, MO)
  2. The Chip Shot (North Kansas City, MO)
  3. Denim and Diamonds (North Kansas City, MO)
  4. The Other Place (Downtown, Overland Park, KS)
  5. Maloney's (Downtown, Overland Park, KS)
  6. The Peanut (Downtown, Overland Park, KS)
  7. J. Barleycorn's (Overland Park, KS)
  8. Arizona's Sports Bar (Overland Park, KS)
  9. Jake's Place (Shawnee, KS)
  10. Danally's (Shawnee, KS)
  11. Court Of aPpealS (Downtown, Shawnee, KS)
  12. McCoy's Public House (Westport, Kansas City, MO)
  13. O'Malley And Sons (Weston, MO)

So it's on now!

If he agrees to go to karaoke this Thursday, then beforehand I'll treat him to #7 for his list. I'm a good sport.

Still...

VICTORY WILL BE MINE!

Ahh...I remember the Chipshot. I used to sneak away there for lunch when I was working at Cerner, because none of my 5000 fellow coworkers knew where the hell this place was or that it even existed.
